그 정도 경력에 29살은 괜찮은 거 같고요, 나이는 같은 BA 라도 22살 ~ 32살까지 정말 다양합니다.

사실 RA해봤다고 컨설팅을 안다고 하기 힘드니까 관련 경력 없는 것은 별 문제 안될듯하기도 하네요

우선 요즘 들어오는 신입 AC 분들(Bain/BCG 는 AC, McK 은 BA 라고 합니다)을 보면 많은 분들이 좋은 학점, Consulting/IB 에서의 RA 경험, 외국 대학 교환학생, Case competition 같은 대회 입상 경력, 경영관련 동아리 경력 이 다섯가지를 모두 가지고 있는 분들이 많습니다. 질문 하신 분을 Demotivate 하려고 쓰는 것은 아니고 Fact를 기술해보았습니다. 물론 모든 사람들이 그렇진 않지만 제가 느낀 것은 갈수록 요즘 학생들이 경력 관리를 잘해서 resume 가 점점 훌륭해지고 있다는 것입니다. 그렇다면, 지금 본인의 Position 이 이들과 비교했을 때 어떤 부분이 부족한지, 어떤 부분이 나은지 판가름해볼 수 있을 것입니다. 나은 것은 부각시키고, 부족한 것은 Make up 할 수 있도록 해야겠지요. 전 두번째 point를 부각시키실 수 있다면 어린 지원자들과 차별화 할 수 있는 기회라고 생각됩니다. 이공계 연구원으로서 가질 수 있는 독특한 문제 해결의 시각, 그리고 3년여간의 직장 경험에서 나올 수 있는 조직을 이해하고, Client 를 이해할 수 있는 Maturity 와 리더쉽. 이것이 바로 질문해주신 분의 차별화 point로서 강조해야할 부분일 것입니다. 어린 친구들에 비해 이 부분들이 본인의 강점이 되지 않을까요? 나이는 본인이 자신보다 어린 팀장이나 Module leader 밑에서 일하는 것이 크게 문제되지 않는다면 그다지 고민할 부분은 아닌 듯 합니다. Firm 측면에서도 나이보다는 Position 으로서 평가하기 때문에 크게 걱정은 안하셔도 될거 같습니다. 또한, 최근 한가지 trend 가 병특 마치시고, 혹은 다른 곳에서 1-2년 일하시고 들어오시는 분들이 많아지는 추세여서 남자분들의 경우 나이가 있으신 분들이 간혹 있습니다.

 2) 에 대한 답변

 제가 준비한 방법을 간단히 소개해보겠습니다. 벌써 7-8년 전이니 Old way 일수도 있겠지만, 참고하시면 좋겠네요.

 제가 준비할 때만 하더라도 자료를 구하기 어려운 시절이었기 때문에, 저는 순전히 혼자 준비했습니다. 게다가 경영 관련 동아리에도 가입하지 않았기에 정보를 구하기는 더더욱 어려웠지요. 하지만, 제가 생각했을 때 중요한 것은 생각의 깊이, Logic 입니다. 아마 case 문제라는 것은 주변에서 흔히 생각할  수 있는 모든 것이 문제가 될 것입니다. 버스를 타고 가다가 오늘 이 버스 하루 매출이 얼마나 될까? 내가 버스 회사 사장이라면 매출을 올리기 위해 어떤 고민을 할까? 내가 새롭게 버스 노선을 만든다면 어디에 어떻게 만들어볼까? 등등등...이런 문제가 떠오르면 전 집에서 약 세시간에 걸쳐 고민을 하고 제가 생각한 Logic 들을 구조화 해서 풀어나갔습니다. 그리고, Case 에서 다를만한 거의 모든 이슈들을 Tree 끝까지 고민해보는 것이지요. 그 다음에는 저는 영화 '선생 김봉두' 의 고스톱 장면처럼 제가 스스로 Interviewer 가 되어서 Critque 를 하였습니다. 제가 푼 답이기에 제가 어떤 부분에서 Logic jump 를 했는지 더 잘알고 그런 부분을 스스로에게 질문을 하는 것이지요. 그러면, 다시 Intervieee 입장에서 제가 저에게 답을 합니다. 왜 그런 가정을 했고, 그런 논리를 만들었는지...이렇게 혼자서 role play 를 하면서 질문과 답을 하다보면 어느새 case 푼 종이는 너덜너덜 해지고, 시간은 4시간 정도 지나갑니다. 이게 바로 제가 준비한 방법이고, 이런 것을 계속 하다보면 본인의 생각하는 능력도 증대될 것입니다. 대부분의 사람들은 30-40분 정도의 Case interview 를 위해서 딱 그정도의 고민만 하는데, 3-4시간씩 고민하다보면 실제 Interview에서도 그런 depth 가 나올 수 있지 않을까요?

3)에 대한 답변

 사실Resume screening 통과 후에는 100% Case interview 에 의해 결정되니까, 제 2외국어가 Resume screening 에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 알아야겠네요. +는 되겠지만, critical factor 는 아니라고 생각됩니다. 다만, 본인의 제 2외국어가 Business communication 도 가능한 정도라면 향후 다양한 해외 오피스에서 일할 수 있는 기회가 많이 생길 수 있겠지요. 대부분이 English based office 로 Transfer 를 가는데, 본인의 option 을 넓힐 수 있을 것이라 생각됩니다.
