일반적으로 전략 Firm 의 서울, 도쿄 Office 와 독일의 Munich Office 가 높은 업무 강도로 악명이 높습니다.

서울의 경우 프로젝트마다 혹은 Team Leader 가 누구이냐에 따라 많은 변수가 있지만 대략적으로는 오전9시30분정도 출근해서 밤 10시~12시 정도가 일반적인 것 같습니다. 금요일의 경우에는 대부분이 6시~7시 사이에는 퇴근하는 편이고, 주말은 일요일 점심~저녁 사이에 나와서 다음주를 준비하는 분들이 있습니다.  

 다만, Presentation 이나 중요한 미팅이 있을 경우 앞에서 얘기한 업무 시간은 무한대로 늘어날 수 있으며, 특히나 M&A 관련 Due Diligence 프로젝트의 경우 거의 매일 밤 12시 이후에 퇴근하는 일이 비일비재합니다. 다만, DD 의 경우 그 기간이 1주에서 3-4주 정도로 짧은 프로젝트이기 때문에 그나마 버틸수 있는 듯 합니다.

 이렇게만 보면 업무 강도가 엄청난 거 같지만, 제가 Client 분들과 일하다보면 요즘 대기업들도 그다지 만만치 않은 환경인듯 해서 제 생각에는 전략 Firm 의 업무 강도가 일반 대기업들에 비해 엄청나게 높다고만 보기는 어려울 거 같습니다. 또한, 젊었을 때의 높은 업무 강도는 그만큼 자기 자신이 성장할 수 있는 길이기도 하고, Consulting Firm 에서의 업무들은 일반 기업에서 Process 적인 일에 비해 실질적인 업무들이 많은 만큼 보람을 느낄 수 있는 요소이기도 합니다.

 한가지 더 첨언하자면, 미국의 Office 들의 경우 대게가 저녁 7시~8시30분 사이에 퇴근을 하고 집에가서 식사를 하는 것이 일반적입니다.

금요일에 일찍 퇴근하는 경우도 있겠지만, 금요일도 10-11시까지 일하는 팀들도 많습니다. 일요일에 일하시는 경우도 많이 봤고요. 대기업과 마찬가지로,  client와의 회식자리/술자리 등등도 귀가시간을 늦추는 요인 중의 하나겠죠.
